Hawks fall in Game 1 with Piedmont

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team gave up three runs in the final two innings of a 6-3 loss to Piedmont on Saturday.

Huntingdon (11-6, 11-5 USA South) and Piedmont (12-4, 12-4 USA South) entered the game tied for first place in the USA South Athletic Conference. The two teams will play the second game of a three-game series on Sunday at 3 p.m. Game 3 is set for noon on Monday.

Piedmont scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Huntingdon tied the game in the fifth inning on a two-run homer by first baseman Will Pharis. The tie stood until the eighth inning.

The Hawks finished with nine hits, but no Huntingdon players recorded multiple hits. Left fielder Alec Raley had a RBI single and center fielder Patrick Kucera and right fielder Anthony Spivey each scored one run.

Trey Worthington (1-1) took the loss in relief.
