GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Huntingdon baseball team took Southwestern University into the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday before the Pirates hit a walk-off two-run home run for a 3-1 victory.

Huntingdon starter Zach McGrady (0-3) pitched a complete game and frustrated the Pirates for 8 1/3 innings. The senior carried a two-hitter into the seventh inning before Southwestern (3-1) scored one unearned run to tie the game 1-1.

Southwestern loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth inning but McGrady and the defense worked out of the jam. McGrady forced a pop up to first baseman Garrett Breland for the first out, recorded a strikeout for the second out and ended the threat with another pop up to Breland.

In the bottom of the ninth, McGrady picked up his fifth strikeout of the game before Southwestern ended the game.

The game was scoreless for five innings before Will Cosby scored on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Fought to give the Hawks (1-5) a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning.

Cosby finished the game 2-for-4 and was the only Hawk with multiple hits.

The two teams will wrap up the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday. Game 1 is set for 1 p.m.
