ATLANTA – The Huntingdon baseball team stepped out of conference play and lost to Oglethorpe 4-2 on Tuesday.
The Hawks (9-18) managed just three hits in the game but led 1-0 in the sixth inning and tied the game 2-2 in the top of the eighth inning. But the Stormy Petrels (12-11) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead for good.
Huntingdon held Oglethorpe hitless for five innings. Starting pitcher Carden Mellown and relievers Jared McFall, Dawson Salors and Brad Eckmyre combined for four strikeouts, five hits, two walks and four runs. Salors (0-1) took the loss in 1 2/3 innings.
Huntingdon returns to action in a three-game USA South Athletic Conference series at Covenant this weekend. Game 1 is set for 2 p.m. (Central) on Friday.
