Huntingdon men and women picked 7th in USA South basketball polls

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Huntingdon men's and women's basketball teams are each ranked seventh in the USA South preseason basketball polls released on Wednesday.

The Huntingdon men, who posted a 9-5 conference record in their first year as a member of the USA South and finished as the conference tournament runner-up, received 42 points in the poll. The Lady Hawks, who were 15-10 overall last season and 7-9 in the conference, earned 79 points.

The Maryville men and women are the preseason favorites in both polls. The Maryville men received 10 of a possible 11 first-place votes and finished with 100 points. Averett received the other first-place vote and is second with 82 points.

On the women's side, Maryville received eight first-place votes and 140 points. Ferrum was ranked second with four first-place votes and 129 points and third-ranked Greensboro picked up one first-place vote and 113 points.

The Huntingdon men open the season on Nov. 15 at Sewanee and the Lady Hawks open at Pensacola Christian on Nov. 17.
