2012 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic set for Dec. 28-30 at Roland Arena
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team will host the 2012 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Roland Arena on Dec. 28-30.
The 15-team field includes NCAA Division III and NAIA teams from nine states. In addition to Huntingdon, the field features two teams that are currently unbeaten (Louisiana College and Ferrum College), three teams with just one loss (Transylvania University, Maryville College and Xavier University-Louisiana) and three teams with two losses (Mississippi College, Hanover College and Faulkner University).
Louisiana College and Ferrum are receiving votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. Three of the four NAIA teams in the tournament are ranked in the NAIA Top 25 poll – Xavier is 10th, Georgetown is 18th and Faulkner is 25th.
Admission for the tournaments is $10.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Among the goals are to raise cancer awareness, promote healthy living and raise money to help fight the disease. More than 2,000 college coaches are involved in the program that has helped raise almost $50 million since it first began.
