Bailey and Hargitt named USA South Athletes of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon seniors Luke Bailey and Audrianna Hargitt were named USA South Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Bailey was named Football Offensive Player of the Week while Hargitt was named Volleyball Player of the Week.

The Fairview, Ala. native accounted for five touchdowns as the Hawks rolled to a 47-14 win over conference opponent Methodist. Bailey threw four touchdown passes and 244 yards on a 13-of-19 day. Bailey also carried the ball eight times for 58 yards and one touchdown.

Bailey's first pass of the game went for 10 yards and gave him the Huntingdon career passing record. Bailey has 6,738 passing yards and 74 career passing touchdowns. He now holds the Hawks' career records for passing yards, passing touchdowns, total offense and touchdowns responsible for.  

Hargitt averaged 4.57 kills, 4.14 digs per set and had a .367 hitting percentage as the Hawks went 2-2 this past week. The Cedar Bluff, Ala. native recorded double-digit kills and digs in the four matches.

In a 3-1 win over Pensacola Christian, Hargitt tallied 17 kills and 14 digs while recording five service aces and six blocks. Against Maryville, Hargitt recorded 13 kills and 13 digs and posted 15 kills and 15 digs in a 3-1 loss to Covenant. In a 3-0 sweep against Piedmont, she recorded a career-high 19 kills and added 14 digs and two service aces.

Hargitt's award was the first USA South Athlete of the Week award for the Huntingdon volleyball program since joining the conference.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Luke Bailey, Huntingdon - The senior quarterback accounted for five touchdowns, four passing and one running, in a 47-14 win over USA South foe Methodist. Bailey was 13-of-19 passing for 244 yards, an average of 12.8 yards per attempt, with no interceptions. On the ground, Bailey ran the ball eight times for 58 yards. Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Brian Mann, Ferrum - The freshman running back from Pearisburg, Virginia set a new single-game program record by rushing for 254 yards in a 44-20 win over USA South rival LaGrange. Mann carried the ball 33 times for an average of 7.7 yards per rush with one touchdown. He also caught two passes for 22 yards. Also Nominated: Deandre Gillis, N.C. Wesleyan; Kyle Larson, Maryville.


Football Defensive Player of the Week 
Blake Henderson, Maryville
 - The Maryville, Tennessee sophomore defensive back collected eight total tackles, one interception and one pass break-up in a 31-26 victory over USA South foe Averett. Henderson recorded five solo tackles and three assisted takedowns. His interception came late in the fourth quarter as Averett was driving for the potential winning score. Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
Aaron Branch, Ferrum - The freshman defensive back from Hampton, Virginia totaled six solo tackles including two and a total loss of six yards in a 44-20 victory over USA South rival LaGrange. Brown also forced a fumble and broke up one pass. Also Nominated: Denaus Ferguson, Maryville; Kalton Payne, Averett; DeAnte' Griffith, Huntingdon.


Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Chris Richardson, N.C. Wesleyan - The Chesapeake, Virginia senior place kicker tallied 14 points on three field goals and five point-after-touchdowns in a 44-0 win over USA South foe Greensboro. Richardson was perfect on his three field goal attempts of 25, 22 and 30 yards. He was also true on all five of his PATs. Also Nominated: Max Peets, Maryville; Cole Westberry, Averett; Chase Young, Huntingdon.




Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Andrew Sullivan, Maryville - The junior midfielder from Leesburg, Georgia tallied three goals in a 3-0 week for the Scots. In a 5-1 victory over Sewanee, Sullivan was held scoreless but did manage three shots on goal. In a 2-1, overtime, win over then-USA South leader N.C. Wesleyan, Sullivan scored both of the team's goals including the game-winner in the 99th minute. Finally, in a 2-1 victory over USA South foe Methodist, Sullivan score the first goal of the match in the 13th minute as the Scots secured a share of the USA South Regular Season Championship and top-seed in the upcoming Conference Tournament. Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Austin Bramhall, Averett - The freshman goalkeeper from Herndon, Virginia posted a 2-0 record last week for the Cougars, making 18 total saves and posting a .900 save percentage. In a 2-1 victory over John Wesley, Bramhall stopped five of six shots. In a 2-1 win over USA South foe William Peace, Bramhall collected 13 saves. Also Nominated: Thomas Palmer, Maryville.


Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Kobi Boompong, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman midfielder from Bakoteh, The Gambia notched two goals in a 2-1 week for the Bishops versus USA South competition as the team secured a share of the League Regular Season title. In a 4-0 win over Methodist, Boompong scored an insurance goal in the 55th minute. In a 2-1, overtime loss to Maryville, Boompong was held scoreless but managed one shot on goal. Finally, in a 3-1 victory over Piedmont, Boompong tallied the match's first goal in the 16th minute. Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Jessica Wallace, Meredith - The Kitty Hawk, North Carolina sophomore forward tallied four goals in a 3-0 week for the Avenging Angels versus USA South competition. In a 2-1 win over Averett, Wallace tallied the match's first goal in the 14th minute. In a 1-0, overtime, victory over then-USA South East Division leading Ferrum, Wallace scored the game-winner in the 94th minute. Finally, in a 14-0 win over Mary Baldwin, Wallace notched two goals as Meredith secured the League's East Division Championship. Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Morgan Canepa, Salem - The Elko, Nevada senior defender anchored a Spirit defense which posted two shutouts in a 2-0 week versus USA South competition and secured the League's West Division Championship. In wins over Maryville and Covenant, the Salem defense allowed a total of four shots on goal. Additionally, in a 1-0 win over Wesleyan, Canepa assisted on the eventual game-winning goal in the 27th minute. Also Nominated: Eleni Mavres, Maryville; Kirstie King, Meredith; Ashley Major, N.C. Wesleyan; Alissa Wheeler, Agnes Scott; Bailee Brown, Averett; Kylie Lovett, Wesleyan.


Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Payton Stuart, Ferrum - The Christiansburg, Virginia freshman forward tallied two goals in a 1-1-1 week for the Panthers versus USA South competition. In a 2-2 tie with Methodist, Stuart scored the match's first goal in the first minute. In a 1-0, overtime, loss to USA South East Division champion Meredith, Stuart was held without a shot. Finally, in a 1-0, double-overtime, victory at Averett, Stuart scored the game-winner in the 107th minute. Also Nominated: Alyssa Denkovich, Salem; Kayla Boudreau, Meredith; Indiana Ravenhill, Agnes Scott; T'era Brown, Averett; Carlee Dykes, Wesleyan.




Volleyball Player of the Week
Audrianna Hargitt, Huntingdon - The senior middle hitter from Cedar Bluff, Alabama averaged 4.57 kills, with a .367 hitting percentage, and 4.14 digs per set as the Hawks posted a 2-2 record last week. Additionally, Hargitt posted a double-digit kills and digs in each match. In a 3-1 win over Pensacola Christian, Hargitt posted 17 kills, 16 digs, six blocks and five service aces. In a 3-0 loss to USA South foe Maryville, Hargitt tallied 13 kills, 13 digs, one assist and one service ace. In a 3-1 loss to USA South rival Covenant, Hargitt contributed 15 kills, 15 digs and two service aces. Finally, in a 3-0 victory over USA South foe Piedmont, Hargitt totaled 19 kills, 14 digs, two service aces and one block. Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Haley Hixon, Piedmont - The sophomore libero from Ringgold, Georgia averaged 6.17 digs per set as the Lions posted a 2-1 record last week. In a 3-1 win over Clark Atlanta, Hixon totaled 29 digs, five assists, four service aces and one kill. In a 3-2 win over USA South foe Covenant, Hixon notched 30 digs, two assists, one kill and one service ace. Finally, in a 3-0 loss to Huntingdon, Hixon posted 15 digs and one service ace. Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Mya Parks, William Peace - The freshman outside hitter from LaGrange, North Carolina averaged 3.83 kills, with a .404 hitting percentage, 3.17 digs and 1.00 blocks per set as the Pacers posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 3-0 win over USA South foe Mary Baldwin, Parks totaled eight kills, 11 digs, two assists, two blocks and one service ace. In a 3-0 win over Emory & Henry, Parks posted 15 kills, eight digs, four blocks and one assist.
