Thomas picks up second USA South Athlete of the Week honor

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon football player Eric Thomas closed the season with a dominant performance against LaGrange and was recognized on Monday as one of the USA South Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week.

The sophomore running back was named Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Huntingdon's 42-14 win against the Panthers. This is the second time Thomas has been named Offensive Player of the Week this fall.

Thomas scored a touchdown and rushed for a career-high 209 yards on 30 carries to help the Hawks end the season with a three-game winning streak.

Thomas' 209 yards are the third most in program history behind Alex Baronich's 287 yards against LaGrange in 2009 and Willie Horn's 231 yards against Westminster in 2005.

The effort also helped Thomas become just the third Huntingdon running back to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season. In a nine-game season, he finished with 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns on 142 carries and set Huntingdon's record for average rushing yards per game with 113.3.

For the season, Thomas is second in the USA South in rushing yards, rushing yards per game and rushing yards per carry and leads the conference in rushing touchdowns. He also leads the conference in all-purpose yards (1,549) and all-purpose yards per game (172.1)
