Revised Huntingdon spectator policy for outdoor athletic events

Revised Huntingdon spectator policy for outdoor athletic events

Huntingdon College is a member of the USA South Athletic Conference which announced today that it has revised a Conference policy governing spectators attending any outdoor USA South sporting event to allow two spectators per student-athlete of the host institution, noting that member institutions are allowed to adopt more restrictive policies.

In consideration of Huntingdon's re-entry COVID testing protocols for the spring semester, designated spectators of Huntingdon student-athletes will be required to produce a negative PCR COVID test or documentation of two doses of a COVID vaccine to receive admission to an outdoor contest on campus.  The College, in partnership with Baptist Health, will provide a process for spectators to receive funded PCR COVID testing on Thursdays which will enable attendance at weekend home outdoor contests.  Alternatively, designated spectators may bring a negative PCR COVID test from a local testing provider administered within 72 hours of the competition.  The College will continue to allow Huntingdon students to attend all home outdoor contests. Details outlining the process for obtaining a PCR COVID test and Huntingdon's game day health and wellness protocols can be found below.

The majority of Huntingdon's contests will be broadcast live online on the Huntingdon athletic YouTube page.  Please be aware that contest dates and times may change suddenly.  Please check each respective sports schedule online for the most current information.

Spring 2021 Game Day Protocols

By noon on Wednesday of each week, student-athletes may provide the names of up to two designated spectators for Friday, Saturday and Sunday contests that will be on an approved guest list pending the receipt of a negative PCR COVID test.  For contests held on Monday through Thursday, student-athletes will provide the names of up to two spectators 48 hours in advance.

There will be a designated point of entry for all home athletic contests for designated spectators to check-in, provide documentation of testing results, and receive a wristband for entry into the venue.

Huntingdon students will be allowed to attend all outdoor home contests.

In compliance with USA South Athletic Conference protocols:

  • All designated spectators must wear a mask or face covering at all times, maintain social distancing from other spectators, and wash and sanitize hands.
  • Spectators will not be allowed to interact with players and coaches at the venue and are expected to leave the venue immediately at the conclusion of the contest.
  • Tailgating is prohibited.
  • No spectators from the visiting team will be allowed.
  • Failure by the host institution spectators to comply with institutional and/or conference policy may lead to suspension and/or termination of a game.

PCR COVID Testing Requirements

All designated spectators must provide a negative PCR COVID test to receive entry into a Huntingdon College athletic venue.

Huntingdon College, in partnership with Baptist Health, is funding PCR COVID testing on Thursdays at the COVID testing facility at Baptist South, 2105 East South Boulevard.  The College receives test results the next day which would enable a spectator to attend games on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday of a weekend.

Student-athletes must notify the College by Wednesday at noon of each week if their designated spectators wish to participate in the funded PCR COVID testing at Baptist South.   An appointment will be made by the College for the spectators to be tested on Thursday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Alternatively, designated spectators may provide a negative PCR COVID test administered within 72 hours of the competition from their local testing facility.  Thus, a test administered on Tuesday would be acceptable for a weekend series beginning on Friday.  A Wednesday test would be appropriate for a Saturday or Sunday contest, or a series beginning on Saturday.

Designated spectators who can provide documentation of two doses of a COVID vaccine are exempt from the testing requirement.

Designated spectators who can provide documentation of a positive COVID test more than ten days before the contest and less than 90 days before are also exempt from the testing requirement.

All designated spectators attending a mid-week game (Monday through Thursday) must provide their own negative PCR COVID test.

The documentation from spectators who bring test results conducted outside of the funded COVID testing provided by Huntingdon should include the individual's name, date of birth, date of the test, the type of test administered, and the result of the test.

Please note, a PCR test is not an antigen test.

Please note that in order to assist with the time requirements of the aforementioned policy, all COVID 19 PCR test completed through Baptist South will end in the results of this test being transmitted to Huntingdon College solely for the purpose of compliance with this policy. Huntingdon will under no circumstances release this information to any other party.
