Beach Volleyball Qualifies For Championship Bracket At The AVCA Beach Volleyball Championships
GULF SHORES, Ala.- Seeded as the #4 team at the AVCA Beach Volleyball Championships, the Huntingdon Hawks opened pool play with matches against the #3 seed, Lynchburg, and the #9 seed, LaGrange.
The Hawks opened their day with a 3-0 win over CCS opponent LaGrange before upsetting the Lynchburg Hornets 3-2 in order to advance to the championship bracket. Finishing as the #1 team in their pool of three, the Hawks will enter day two as one of three teams with a 2-0 record to this point, joining Berry and Mary-Hardin Baylor in that regard. Match One v. LaGrange
- Ariel Helmick and Veronica Tikhomirova defeated Zentrina Choice and Meredith Orton 21-9 and 21-12
- Ashlen Janowski and Izzy Valldeperas defeated Julia Damico and Kaitlin Gilchrist 21-19 and 21-17
- Eva Ellenburg and Jessi Hilyer defeated Madelyn Orton and Claire Titus 21-9 and 22-20
Match Two v. Lynchburg
- Ariel Helmick and Veronica Tikhomirova defeated Amanda Trapp and SJ Yanz in three sets, falling in the first 21-12 before winning the next two 21-11 and 15-9
- Ashlen Janowski and Izzy Valldeperas were defeated by Kailey Keough and Mady Shirey 21-17 and 21-15
- Eva Ellenburg and Jessi Hilyer were defeated by Jordan Palmer and Sydney Phillips 21-15 and 22-20
- Carryne Chancey and Morgan Suggs defeated Parker Lynch and Virginia Zalinski 21-14 and 21-16
- In dramatic fashion, Lydia Hitchcock and Lily VanDyke defeated Lydia Nelson and Jamie Smith in three sets, dropping the first 22-20 before winning the next two 21-18 and 15-7
The Hawks return to action in Gulf Shores in the Championship Bracket tomorrow, April 19th, taking on Hendrix at 8:40 AM. The winner will advance to face #1 seeded Berry College at 11:00 AM CT.
