MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team used strong pitching and timely hitting to open the season with a 2-0 win against Berea College on Friday.
The game was the second of two on the first day of the Huntingdon Firehouse Classic at Riverwalk Stadium. Sewanee defeated Guilford 7-3 in the first game of the day.
Pitchers Carden Mellown and Jacob Munn combined for 11 strikeouts and no walks in the Hawks' three-hit shutout. Mellown picked up the win, striking out eight and allowing three hits. The junior faced just 23 batters in seven innings. Munn earned the save, striking out three of the six batters he faced in two hitless innings.
Offensively, Huntingdon put together eight hits and scored one run in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning.
Powell, Coleman and Bradley Harris each finished 2-for-4.

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action in the Firehouse Classic at Riverwalk Stadium on Saturday. Huntingdon will play Guilford at 4 p.m. Sewanee and Berea will play in the first game of the day at noon.
