Hawks Drop First Two At LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga.- Hitting the road for their final series of the regular season, Huntingdon Baseball kicked off their three-game slate with LaGrange in a double-header this afternoon.

The Hawks ultimately fell to the Panthers in the first two games, taking a 17-7 loss in game one before dropping game two 14-5.

Game One

The Hawks started off hot in game one, scoring three runs in the first frame to secure an early advantage. Brodie Holcomb got things going, singling at his first at-bat to bring home both Cade Morgan and Ty Pruitt to bring the score to 2-0. Dalton Kuhn returned the favor shortly thereafter with an RBI single, securing a run to put Huntingdon in front 3-0. The Panthers responded with three runs of their own in between the first and second inning however, evening things at three before the start of the third inning. The Hawks answered LaGrange's run with another of their own, scoring four runs in the top of the fourth inning to push their advantage to 7-3.  Sam Kelley led things off with a 3 RBI triple, scoring Morgan, Pruitt, and Brent Cadenhead to bring the score to 6-3. Dalton Kuhn replicated his RBI single in the first with another one in the fourth, scoring Brodie Holcomb to put Huntingdon up 7-3.

After tying things at 7 in the fourth inning, LaGrange went on an offensive tear throughout the remainder of the game, scoring 10 runs in the sixth inning to walk away with a 17-7 victory.

Game Two

Similar to the start of game one, Cade Morgan crossed home plate in the opening frame to give Huntingdon an early lead, 1-0.  This time however, the Panthers pieced together runs to take a 3-1 lead into the third inning. Huntingdon answered with a run to start the third, as Brodie Holcomb's sacrifice fly allowed for Ty Pruitt to score, but the Hawks still trailed 3-2. LaGrange stayed hot at the plate following the first game, pushing their lead to as much as 11-2 through four innings. James Chorey and Blayne McDaniel each secure RBI base hits in the sixth inning, scoring runs for Holcomb and Dalton Kuhn, but the Hawks still faced a 11-4 deficit. After the Panthers brought their lead to 13-4 entering the seventh inning, Cade Morgan hit a single shot home run to try and spark a Huntingdon rally, but LaGrange remained in control, taking the victory 14-5.

The Hawks look to bounce back in the series finale tomorrow, April 26th. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM CT.
