Cade Morgan Walks It Off To Keep Huntingdon Alive In The CCS Tournament

MARYVILLE, Tenn.- Facing elimination following their loss to Belhaven yesterday, Huntingdon Baseball returned to action against Covenant College in an elimination game for both teams.

After falling behind 6-0 in the first inning, the Hawks responded with six runs of their own to even things up before the third inning. The Scots reclaimed the lead in the top of the 9th, 8-7, but with two outs on the board, Cade Morgan drove home two runs, keeping the Hawks alive with a 9-8 victory.

How it happened

As previously mentioned, The Scots put six runs on the board early off of five hits to take control early. Huntingdon followed up however with six runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning, with a wild pitch scoring Byron McLain for the Hawks first run. Two at-bats later, Ty Pruitt singled to left center, scoring Blayne McDaniel to bring the score to 6-2 before Jabez Sampson scored to cut the lead to 6-3. Huntingdon stayed hot as the inning wore on, with Brodie Holcomb's triple scoring both Cade Morgan and Ty Pruitt to bring the Hawks within one, 6-5, before McLain's single scored Holcomb to even things up heading into the third inning.

With no runs being scored in the third, fourth, or fifth innings, Huntingdon managed to claim a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning with a Covenant throwing error making way for another Cade Morgan run. Covenant continued to battle however, responding with two runs in the top of the 9th inning to lead 8-7 coming down the stretch. To open the final frame of the game, Blayne McDaniel and Jabez Sampson each got on base by way of a walk to get into scoring position, allowing Cade Morgan to walk things off, scoring each of the runners to keep the Hawks alive in the tournament.

The Hawks return to action in the tournament tomorrow, May 2nd, facing the LaGrange College Panthers. Gametime is set for 3:00 PM CT.
