Hawks Roll Past Berea In 7 Innings
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Returning to play at the Firehouse Classic today, the bats were still hot from Huntingdon's 16-4 win over Schreiner yesterday, as the Hawks lit up the scoreboard in a 12-0 victory over their former conference opponents, the Berea Mountaineers.
Contrary to the start of yesterday's contest, the scoring came slowly, as neither side could generate much offensive momentum through the first two innings. Huntingdon's starting pitcher Jable Ramey was excellent early on, holding the Mountaineers hitless through their first three innings, paving way for the Hawks to take a 5-0 in the bottom of the third. Jabez Sampson got things rolling, singling through the middle to score Mikael Bryant before a walk scored Ben Mosely. Blayne McDaniel followed with a run before Byron McLain's single scored Jay Davidson and Sampson to close out the frame. The scoring kept coming in the fourth inning for the Hawks, as errors allowed for McDaniel and Sam Kelley to cross home plate and extend the lead to 8-0. Huntingdon's four-run sixth inning brought the game to a close early, As Dalton Kuhn, and Blayne McDaniel eached put balls in play that scored a series of Hawks with a Berea error bringing home both Kuhn and McLain, bringing the final score to 12-0 through 7 innings.
