Conville Captures 500 Career Victories As Huntingdon Run-Rules North Park

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Continuing the early season trend of hot hitting for the Hawks, Huntingdon Baseball lit up the scoreboard with 17 runs on 13 hits in a 17-7 victory over North Park University in eight innings. With tonight's win, Huntingdon Head Coach DJ Conville has captured 500 career wins as the Hawks Head Baseball Coach.

Conville's influence has been felt on the Huntingdon baseball program for 29 seasons, 21 of those being as head coach of the program. First as a player, then as an assistant coach and head coach, Conville has played a role in the Hawks' success since 1995. A middle infielder with the Hawks in 1995 and 1996, Conville was hired as an assistant coach in 1997. He served as an assistant through 2004 and became head coach in 2005. With his CCS title run in the 2025 season, Conville has now won a conference championship in each of the athletic conference's he has coached in (GSAC, USA South, CCS).

After a silent first inning, it was the Vikings who drew blood first, scoring 2 runs in the top frame of the second inning to secure an early advantage. Their lead proved to be short-lived however, as the Hawks answered with 4 runs in the bottom frame to move in front by two runs. Jabez Sampson scored the first run for Huntingdon on a wild pitch, making way for Byron McLain to score off the bat of Ben Mosely to even things at 2 with no outs on the board. Blayne McDaniel followed with a triple down the right field line, scoring Brent Cadenhead to give Huntingdon a 3-2 lead before Ty Pruitt's RBI scored McDaniel to close the inning. The Hawks kept their momentum through the third inning and into the fourth, scoring another five runs to push the lead to 9-2 headed into the fifth inning. Drew Jolley, Sam Kelley, and Pruitt each secured RBI's in the frame, scoring McDaniel, Mosely, Cadenhead, and Brodie Holcomb to widen the gap even further.

North Park drilled a home run over the fence in the top of the 5th to momentarily cut into the lead, but another RBI from Blayne McDaniel brought Huntingdon's lead to 10-3 entering the sixth inning. The Vikings found a second win in the sixth, scoring four runs to draw within three, 10-7. Down the stretch however, the Hawks answered the call with 7 unanswered runs to close things out early.

Jacob McFarling snagged his second win of the season, surrendering 3 runs and 4 hits in 5 innings pitched. Freshman Reece Thomas also saw time on the mound while Will Argo closed things out.

The Hawks close the Firehouse Classic tomorrow, February 14th with a double-header against North Carolina Wesleyan and MUW. Games are set for 1:30 and 4:30 PM CT.
