Hawks Baseball Suffers First Loss At The Hands Of Spalding

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Finally returning to action at Neal Posey Field following a rain-filled weekend, Huntingdon Baseball suffered their first loss of the season, falling 3-2 to the Eagles of Spalding University.

It was a relatively tame game for both sides, as Huntingdon was limited to just 4 hits while Spalding recorded just 8 of their own in the nine-inning contest. It was the Eagles who struck first, sending the first run across home plate in the top frame of the third inning to grab control. Their lead was extended to 3-0 in the 7th inning following another pair of runs late, widening the gap coming down the stretch. Huntingdon finally responded in the bottom of the seventh, as sophomore Jay Davidson drilled a RBI double into left center, scoring Jabez Sampson to cut the lead to 3-1 headed into the eighth. The Hawks managed to draw within one, 3-2, in the bottom of the 8th with Ty Pruitt's run off a Spalding wild pitch, but the comeback effort ultimately fell short in the loss.

Four Hawks saw action on the mound today, but it was Jacob McFarling who fell to 2-1 on the year with the loss. Through 3 innings, McFarling surrendered 1 run while pitching 3 strikeouts. Jable Ramey, MD Johnson, and Will Argo each also pitched in the loss.

The Hawks will have an opportunity to respond on Wednesday, February 25th at Millsaps. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM CT.
