Hawks Claim Comeback Victory Over Mt. St. Joseph Before Falling To #14 Adrian

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Closing out their fourth consecutive home tournament with a double-header this afternoon at Neal Posey Field, Huntingdon Baseball came from behind to defeat the Lions of Mt. St. Joe 7-4 before falling to #14 Adrian 10-5. 

Game one v. MSJU

Huntingdon used a four-run eighth inning to break open a tight contest and secure a 7-4 victory in the opener.

The Hawks struck first in the bottom of the first when Brodie Holcomb delivered an RBI single to plate Ty Pruitt. Huntingdon added single runs in the fourth and fifth, highlighted by an RBI single from Brent Cadenhead and a sacrifice fly from Jabez Sampson, to build a 3-1 lead.

After Mt. St. Joseph scored three runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 advantage, the Hawks responded in the eighth. Cadenhead and Ben Mosely sparked the rally with back-to-back singles before Pruitt drew a walk to load the bases. Blayne McDaniel delivered the decisive blow with a two-run single through the right side, and Holcomb and Sam Kelley added RBI efforts to cap the four-run frame.

Huntingdon finished with 10 hits, getting multi-hit performances from Pruitt, Cadenhead and Mosely. On the mound, Will Argo earned the win with 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits while striking out two to close out the game.

Game two v. #14 Adrian

In the nightcap, the Hawks faced an early deficit and ultimately fell 10-5 to nationally ranked Adrian.

Huntingdon tallied eight hits in the contest, with McDaniel and Cadenhead each collecting two. Mikael Bryant drove in a run with a second-inning single, and Holcomb added an RBI double in the seventh.

Trailing 8-2 entering the eighth, the Hawks mounted a rally. A balk brought home one run before Dalton Ash lined an RBI single through the right side. McDaniel followed with a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to 8-5, but Adrian answered with two insurance runs in the ninth.

On the mound, Huntingdon used five pitchers in the game, with Charlie Morgan suffering the loss in the start.

The split moves the Hawks to 8-4 on the season as they prepare for the 5th installment of the Firehouse Classic beginning on Saturday, March 7th at 1:00 PM against Alma. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM CT.
