Pruitt's Walk-Off Single Elevates The Hawks Past LaGrange In Conference Opener
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Opening CCS play tonight at Neal Posey Field, Huntingdon Baseball claimed the first of the three-game series against the LaGrange Panthers by a score of 7-6. After trailing all night, senior catcher Ty Pruitt capped off the Hawks comeback with a walk-off single, handing Huntingdon a dramatic first win in conference action.
Trailing 6–4 entering the bottom of the ninth, the Hawks put together a two-out rally. Dalton Ash reached to begin the late push before Drew Jolley moved into scoring position. Mikael Bryant then delivered a clutch two-run single to right center to tie the game at 6–6. Moments later, Ty Pruitt lined a single to right center that brought Jolley home with the winning run, completing the comeback and securing the conference-opening victory.
LaGrange built an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning and adding three runs in the third to move ahead 5–1. Huntingdon answered in the second with an RBI single from Bryant before cutting further into the deficit in the third. Jabez Sampson drove in a run on a fielder's choice, and another run crossed the plate on a wild pitch to make it 5–3.
The Hawks continued to chip away in the fifth inning when Pruitt drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Sampson and trim the margin to one. LaGrange pushed its lead to 6–4 with a sacrifice fly in the ninth before Huntingdon answered with three runs in the bottom half to seal the win.
Bryant paced the Huntingdon offense with a 3-for-4 performance and three RBIs, while Blayne McDaniel, Brodie Holcomb, and Sam Kelley each recorded two hits. The Hawks finished with 11 hits and eight walks in the contest.
On the mound, Will Argo delivered a key performance out of the bullpen, tossing five scoreless innings to keep Huntingdon within striking distance. Sam Tompkins picked up the win after working the final inning.
