Davidson Drills Hawks Second Walk-Off In As Many Days To Claim Series Over LaGrange
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- "The Heart Attack Hawks" as described by play-by-play commentator Caleb Robertson on the broadcast, struck again, as Huntingdon Baseball came back from down 10-4 to take a dramatic 11-10 victory over the LaGrange College Panthers. Jay Davidson served as today's hero, capping off the comeback with an RBI single through the right side to hand the Hawks the series win in their conference opener.
The Hawks faced an early deficit after the Panthers plated runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to build a 5–0 advantage. Huntingdon began chipping away in the fourth when Drew Jolley lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Brodie Holcomb, putting the Hawks on the board. Holcomb continued his big afternoon in the sixth, launching a solo home run to cut the margin to 5–2 before another run crossed later in the inning to make it 5–3.
LaGrange answered with four runs across the seventh and eighth innings and added another in the ninth, stretching the lead to 10–4 heading into Huntingdon's final at-bat. The Hawks, however, refused to go quietly.
Huntingdon's rally began with an RBI groundout from Ty Pruitt, followed by an RBI single from Blayne McDaniel. Brodie Holcomb delivered again with an RBI single to trim the deficit, and Jolley drew a bases-loaded walk to bring the Hawks within two. Moments later, Mikael Bryant lined a two-run single through the right side to tie the game at 10–10 and electrify the home crowd.
With the momentum fully on Huntingdon's side, Jay Davidson stepped in and drove a single through the right side, allowing the winning run to score and completing the stunning comeback.
Holcomb led the offensive surge for the Hawks, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, including the sixth-inning homer that helped spark the comeback. Bryant added two hits and two RBIs, while Kelley and Cadenhead each contributed two-hit performances. Pruitt and Jolley both drove in two runs apiece as Huntingdon tallied 14 hits on the afternoon.
On the mound, Caleb Griffis picked up the win after working the final inning out of the bullpen for the Hawks.
Huntingdon closes out their conference-opening series with the Panthers tomorrow, March 15th. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM CT.
