Hawks Fall In Series Opener Against #17 Belhaven

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Returning to Neal Posey Field for CCS action for the first time since March 21st, Huntingdon Baseball got out to an early lead, but couldn't hang on in a 11-6 loss at the hands of the #17 ranked Blazers of Belhaven University.

The Hawks came out sharp, plating four runs in the second inning after a leadoff homer from Brodie Holcomb in the first. RBI hits from Mikael Bryant, Ty Pruitt, and Blayne McDaniel helped build a 4-0 advantage, and Huntingdon extended it to 6-1 through four innings behind RBI efforts from Sam Kelley and Drew Jolley.

On the mound, MD Johnson kept Belhaven in check early, striking out eight over five innings while allowing four runs. But momentum shifted in the middle innings as the Blazers chipped away, tying the game at 6-6 in the seventh on a solo homer.

Belhaven broke it open later in the inning with an RBI single and a two-run homer, taking a 9-6 lead. A two-run blast in the ninth added insurance and sealed the comeback.

Offensively, Pruitt led the Hawks with three hits and an RBI, while McDaniel added two hits and an RBI. Holcomb finished with a homer and two runs scored as Huntingdon totaled 12 hits but left 10 runners on base.

Will Argo was tagged with the loss in relief as Huntingdon was unable to slow Belhaven's 15-hit attack, including three home runs.

The Hawks close out their series with the Blazers tomorrow, April 18th for Senior Day. Games are set for 1:00 and 4:00 with Senior Day festivities beginning at 12:30 PM CT.
