Johnson Pitches Complete Game As Hawks Take Game One In Demorest
DEMOREST, Ga.- Closing out the regular series on the road against Piedmont, Huntingdon Baseball downed the CCS front-running Piedmont Lions 4-2 behind the complete game performance by freshman MD Johnson on the mound.
The Lions struck first with two runs in the opening inning, but Huntingdon chipped away and eventually took control behind timely hitting and steady pitching. Brent Cadenhead led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, including the go-ahead knock in the eighth inning. Sam Kelley also delivered a key RBI single in the seventh, while Jabez Sampson scored twice and added a pair of hits.
Huntingdon evened the score in the sixth when Mikael Bryant's groundout brought home Sampson, with the run coming unearned. The Hawks then took their first lead an inning later on Kelley's RBI single before adding an insurance run in the eighth on Cadenhead's RBI double.
On the mound, MD Johnson was dominant after the first inning, tossing a complete game to improve to 6-1. He allowed just two runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking one, keeping Piedmont off the board over the final eight innings.
Huntingdon finished with 12 hits in the win, getting multiple hits from Sampson, Drew Jolley, Holcomb, and Cadenhead, while the defense also turned a key double play to help preserve the victory.
The series comes to a close tomorrow, April 24th in a double-header. Games are set for 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM CT.
