Flag Football Drops Two At Life University
ATLANTA, Ga. Returning to action for the first time since their mid-week loss at the hands of Reinhardt University, Huntingdon Flag Football made the short trip to Atlanta, facing off with Life University and Florida Gateway College in a tri-match.
The Hawks dropped both games, taking a 27-12 loss to the Running Eagles before the Timberwolves claimed a 47-6 victory in the second game over Huntingdon.
Game one v. Life
Life University opened the game with a strong offensive and defensive effort, forcing a Huntingdon punt on the first drive of the game before cashing in on a four yard rush to take a 7-0 lead by the at the 6:30 mark. Neither team could make their way to the endzone through the remainder of the period, leaving the score at 7-0 as the second quarter got underway.
The second quarter was dominated by each team's defense, with Laikleigh Ridge's interception midway through the quarter highlighting the Hawks defensive effort. Despite being placed in an advantageous position, the Huntingdon offense couldn't capitalize, turning the ball over on downs. The lone touchdown of the quarter belonged to Life, as the Running Eagles found the endzone on a 10-yard touchdown connection to take a 13-0 lead into halftime.
The Running Eagles continued to pour it on as the second half got underway, as a 35-yard touchdown pass on the opening possession raised their lead to 20-0 two minutes in. The Hawks responded with a 10-play, 71 yard drive capped off by a 1-yard touchdown connection from Emily Stricklin to De'Aysia Williams, bringing the score to 20-6 with six minutes remaining in the period. The final three drives of the quarter saw little offensive production, with Life turning the ball over on downs twice and Huntingdon throwing an interception.
On their first drive of the fourth quarter, the Hawks cut the Life University lead to 20-12, as Mary Wade Latham threw a 32 yard strike to Kylah Rome for a 32-yard touchdown. The Running Eagles followed up with another touchdown to bring their lead to 27-12, and the Hawks couldn't respond, taking the 15 point loss.
Game Two v. Florida Gateway
The Wolverines controlled the game from the onset, taking a 20-0 lead in the first quarter as they distanced themselves from the Hawks. Huntingdon's lone touchdown of the game came on the Hawks opening possession of the second quarter, as Emily Stricklin and Laikleigh Ridge connected for 41-yard touchdown to bring the score to 26-6. Florida Gateway went on to take a 34-6 lead into the halftime break before claiming a 47-6 victory.
The Hawks return to action at Samford Stadium on April 9th, hosting Point University. Gametime is set for 5:00 PM CT.
