ATLANTA – The Huntingdon men's basketball team led for more than 38 minutes on Sunday but lost to Regis College 69-68 in overtime in the opening round of the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Tournament.
Huntingdon (6-2) took the lead in the first two minutes of the game and held the lead until the final 92 seconds of regulation. Trailing 60-57 with six seconds left in regulation, Huntingdon freshman Scotty Chadwick hit a 3-pointer to tie the game and force overtime.
In overtime, Regis (3-5) led 67-66 before junior Andre Ashley hit two free throws to give Huntingdon the lead with 16 seconds left. Regis answered with six seconds left to take the final lead.
"The guys battled hard but we were a little rusty after exams," Huntingdon head coach Mike Pugh said. "We played hard, but we didn't shoot well and we turned the ball over 21 times. We're going to look to bounce back on Monday."
The Hawks will play Mount St. Vincent on Monday at 3 p.m. in the tournament.
Ashley led Huntingdon with a career-high 20 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. Raheem Berry added 13 points and seven rebounds and Jerrod Pettus followed with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Freshman Brandon McLean matched his season-high with nine rebounds. He also had three blocks and three steals.
