MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon Student-Athlete Advisory Committee recently helped raise a collection of more than 6,000 items for the Montgomery Area Food Bank.
The effort was part of the USA South Athletic Conference’s Cans Across the Conference food drive. All 18 member institutions of the USA South collected non-perishable items to benefit local charities of their choosing.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The second-ranked Huntingdon men’s golf team shot 301 in the first round of the O’Briant-Jensen Memorial on Monday.
Entering Tuesday’s final round, the Hawks are 11 strokes out of first and in 12th. Sixth-ranked Hampden-Sydney, 16th-ranked Guilford College and 23rd-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic are tied for first at 6-over-par 290.
ROME, Ga. – The Huntingdon B-Team earned a second-place finish in the Chick-fil-A Invitational at Stonebridge Golf Club on Tuesday.
After shooting an even-par 288 in Round 1, the Hawks shot 306 in the final round to finish five strokes out of first with an 18-over-par 594. The LaGrange College varsity won the 19-team tournament with a 13-over 589 and the 23rd-ranked Berry College varsity was third with a 21-over 597.

The B-Team Hawks are three strokes out of first and in second entering Tuesday’s final round. The LaGrange College varsity leads the 19-team tournament with a 3-under-par 285.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Two Huntingdon golfers were among those recognized with the release of the USA South Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week awards on Wednesday.
Senior Drew Mathers was named Golfer of the Week for men’s golf and freshman Emma Cox was named Rookie of the Week for women’s golf.
SANDESTIN, Fla. – Senior Drew Mathers and the Huntingdon men’s golf team finished strong in the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational on Tuesday at the Raven Golf Course.
Mathers closed the tournament with a 7-under-par 64 in the final round and placed second with a 9-under 204. Illinois Wesleyan’s Rob Wuethrich edged Mathers by three strokes to earn medalist honors with a 12-under 201.
As a team, the third-ranked Hawks shot 1-under 283 in the final round and placed second with a 6-under 846. Second-ranked and defending national champion Illinois Wesleyan won the three-round tournament with a 15-under 837. The 18-team tournament included 15 nationally ranked teams.

TUNICA, Miss. – Huntingdon senior Drew Mathers broke Huntingdon’s NCAA-era record for career wins and the third-ranked men’s golf team won its first tournament of the fall season on Monday in the Rhodes College Fall Classic.
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Huntingdon senior Drew Mathers fired a career-best round on Sunday to close out the NCAA DIII Fall Preview and win the tournament by four strokes.
Mathers shot a 6-under-par 66 in the final round and finished the three-round tournament with a 6-under 210 to win his fifth career tournament as a Hawk. The five career wins ties Huntingdon’s NCAA-era record for wins set by former All-American Chase Blaich.

Entering Sunday’s final round, the Hawks are third in an 18-team field that features 15 nationally ranked teams and 11 of the top 12 teams in Division III.
NATCHEZ, Miss. – Former Huntingdon golfer and three-time All-American Stephen Shephard won his first professional event on Saturday.
In his debut on the All Pro Tour, Shephard shot a 15-under-par 273 in four rounds and won the Taco Bell Natchez Classic in a playoff at Beau Pre Country Club.
DECATUR, Ala. – Huntingdon golfer Drew Mathers recently won his second amateur tournament of the summer with a two-stroke win in the Spirit of America Classic.
Mathers shot a 13-under-par 271 at Burningtree Country Club to beat two-time defending tournament champion and University of South Alabama golfer Brooks Rabren.
NORMAN, Okla. – Huntingdon junior Drew Mathers was announced as a member of the 2019 All-Nicklaus Team this week.
The team is comprised of golfers from Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA. Mathers was one of three Division III golfers to earn the recognition. The Mobile, Ala., native was a finalist for the Division III Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award this season.
NORMAN, Okla. – Four Huntingdon golfers were recognized with the release of the Golf Coaches Association of America’s finalized Division III Ping All-America teams.
Senior Stephen Shephard and junior Drew Mathers were announced as first-team All-America selections in May. This week, senior Henry Gee was named third-team All-America and senior Mark Connelly was named an honorable mention selection.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – A total of 119 Huntingdon College student-athletes were recognized with the release of the USA South Academic All-Conference team on Friday.
The student-athletes, representing each of Huntingdon's 18 athletic programs, were among the 1,441 USA South student-athletes named to the team.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon College President J. Cameron West recently announced the promotion of Eric Levanda to Director of Athletics.
Levanda has spent more than a decade as Huntingdon’s Associate Director of Athletics and Director of Operations.
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The Huntingdon men’s golf team turned in its best four-round total of the NCAA era and placed second to match its best finish in the Division III Men’s Golf Championships.
Second-ranked Huntingdon shot a 9-over-par 297 in Friday’s final round at Keene Trace Golf Club to finish the tournament with a 25-over 1177. Third-ranked Illinois Wesleyan won the tournament with a 22-over 1174.
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The Huntingdon men’s golf team made another big push in the third round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship on Thursday.
The second-ranked Hawks shot 10 strokes better than any other team in the tournament on Thursday with a 2-over-par 290. Entering Friday’s final round at Keene Trace Golf Club, the Hawks are tied for first with a 16-over 880 in the first three rounds.
