McMonigle Catches Fire As Hawks Down Spalding

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Claiming their first victory of the season at home against Spalding University, Huntingdon Men's Lacrosse lit up the scoreboard in a 16-9 win over the Golden Eagles. Sophomore Jaxon McMonigle was on fire throughout the entire game, as the Woodville, Alabama native contributed 7 goals and 3 assists to generate over 60% of the Hawks offense.

Spalding came out of the gates swinging, tacking on two goals in the first two minutes to rapidly establish their advantage. Their lead proved to be short-lived however, as McMonigle followed with two consecutive unanswered goals to even things by the 8:57 mark in the quarter. The two squads traded goals to close out the quarter, as McMonigle and Josh Knost each cashed in to keep pace as the score remained tied at 4 headed into the second quarter. The Hawks dictated the pace of the game throughout the entirety of the second quarter, opening things with a pair of goals from Hunter Rives and McMonigle to put Huntingdon in front 6-4 before a Golden Eagle goal at the 2:32 mark brought the Hawks halftime lead to 6-5. The third quarter was all Huntingdon, as McMonigle, Josh Knost, Kelcey Marston, Rives, and Connor Angst each scored to boost Hawks lead to 12-7 by the end of the period. Jacob Green and Landon Nary joined in on the scoring action as McMonigle put in his final two goals in the fourth quarter to ice the game and hand Huntingdon their first win of the season, 16-9.

Bosco Noto, Ethan Schellenberger, and Nathan Brezovec each saw time between the pipes for Huntingdon, but it was Brezovec securing the first win of his young career, recording 2 saves in 38 minutes of action.
