Hawks Fall To Oglethorpe On The Road

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After opening their season at home with a 3-3 draw against Warren Wilson, Huntingdon Men's Soccer returned to action tonight, this time on the road to face the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University in a non-conference showdown.  Despite getting on the board in the opening two minutes, the Hawks couldn't keep pace with the Stormy Petrels, surrendering three first half goals en route to a 4-1 loss in their second game of the season. 

How it happened

Huntingdon was clicking on all cylinders to get things going, as Dashun McDonald tucked a shot into the lower right corner of the goal off an assist from Brandon Cruz to put the Hawks in front 1-0 early on. This lead proved to be short-lived however, as the Stormy Petrels, voted to finish 2nd in the SAA behind top-15 ranked Trinity, rallied with three unanswered goals in the first half, limiting Huntingdon to just the one attempt in the half as they built a 3-1 halftime lead. The second half saw much of the same, with the Hawks firing off just one shot attempt as Oglethorpe tacked on another goal to walk away with a 4-1 win.

Freshman Trent Wineberg played all 90 minutes in the goal for Huntingdon, allowing four goals while picking up 5 saves on the game.

The Hawks look to bounce back at home on Friday, September 5th. Gametime is set for 2:00 PM CT.
