Hawks Secure First Win In The Robert Spain Era With 4-1 Victory Over Centenary

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After starting their season with a draw and a loss, Huntingdon Men's Soccer managed to write the ship in their third contest of the year, scoring four unanswered goals in a 4-1 victory over the Gents of Centenary College. A symbolic win, today's victory marks Head Coach Robert Spain's first victory at the helm of the program.

How it happened

Both team's came flying out the gates, as Centenary managed to put the first goal on the board just three minutes in. Not to be outdone however, Huntingdon responded just two minutes later with a goal of their own, as Josh Shannon capitalized off an assist from Dashun McDonald to quickly even things up. The Hawks managed to take a 2-1 lead by the 11:38 mark, as Aaron MccRory snuck one past the keeper off yet another assist from Dashun McDonald to cement Huntingdon's advantage entering halftime

The beginning of the second half saw more of the same, as the Hawks continued to roll offensively. Sophomore Christian Ortiz cashed in on a penalty kick nearing the 57 minute mark to extend the Huntingdon lead to 3-1, before Dashun McDonald iced things away with a goal of his own at the 65:20 mark to bring the final score to 4-1.

The Hawks saw a tremendously efficient outing on the attack, scoring their four goals in just 11 shots, while Centenary scored once in their 21 tries.

The Gents' lack of offensive efficiency can largely be attributed to the play of Trent Wineberg in the goal. The Coosada, Alabama native played all 90 minutes for the Hawks, recording 14 saves in the victory.
