JACKSON, Miss.- Kicking off a three game road stretch tonight with a visit to Jackson, Huntingdon Men's Soccer got things going with a matchup against Millsaps College. The Hawks took a 1-0 deficit into the halftime break before falling behind 2-0 early in the second half. They rallied late, scoring a goal coming down the stretch to remain in contention, but couldn't complete the comeback, taking a 2-1 loss to the Majors.
How it happened
Millsaps got things rolling early, scoring their first goal of the night, and the first of the game, less than five minutes in. While the Hawks offense struggled out the gate to generate any momentum, Trent Wineberg and the defense were able to anchor their half of the field, stopping the next six shots for the Majors, keeping the deficit at 1-0 entering the break.
The start of the second half mirrored the first, as the Majors cashed in at the 57:49 mark to push their advantage to 2-0. In spite of the deficit, Huntingdon continued to battle, as Talan Aibejeris sent one past the keeper off a pass from Dashun McDonald to bring the Hawks within one goal with 10 minutes to go. Unfortunately, the Hawks rally would come up short, as Millsaps escaped with a 2-1 victory.
In the goal
#34 Trent Wineberg played all 90 minutes in the goal for Huntingdon, picking up 6 saves while allowing two goals.
The Hawks will look to bounce back on Friday, September 19th as they travel for a contest with MUW. Gametime is set for 7:00 PM CT.
