Gilroy Claims Two Titles As Huntingdon Finalizes The CCS Championships
MARYVILLE, Tenn.- With the second day of competition bringing the 2025 Collegiate Conference of the South Track and Field Championships to a close, Huntingdon Track and Field walked away with 13 medals throughout the entirety of the competition.
Former CCS Rookie of the Year and Sophomore Standout Rory Gilroy headlined Huntingdon's success, picking up a medal in every competition he participated in throughout the weekend. He opened things up today with the 4x100m relay, joining Gavin McAbee, Marcus Malone, and Jimmy Woods as the Hawks finished with a bronze medal. He then followed up with two individual championships, first winning the 110m Hurdles crown with a time of 15.23 seconds before taking first in the 400m Hurdles as well, this time with a personal best time of 54.72 seconds. His success across the board earned him the title of "Performer of the Meet."
Will Shirley rounded out his weekend with a third medal today, following up on his two third place finishes yesterday with a second-place mark of 13.61 meters in the shot put. Freshman Marcus Malone secured another medal as well, claiming third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.96 meters, a new personal record. Mackenzy Crawford built upon his personal record time in the 400m preliminary competition yesterday with another personal record today, taking second place in the event with a time of 49.66 seconds. He secured another second place finish in the 200m shortly after, crossing the line in yet another personal record time of 22.25 seconds.
Qualifying for finals in three events, Grayson York rounded out Huntingdon's individual medal performances of the meet with a third place finish in the 400m Hurdles. He also placed inside the top 8 in the 100m and the 110m Hurdles. The 4x400m relay team of Gilroy, Crawford, McAbee, and York also brought home a third place finish with a season best time of 3:27.26.
As for the women's team, freshman Nariah Travis secured the first medal of her career with a third place finish in the 200m, crossing the line in 27 seconds. Mya Farmer joined her in that same regard, picking up a bronze medal in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.70 seconds.
Senior Kate Smith qualified in both the 400m and the 800m yesterday, placing her within the top 8 of both events today. She combined that with a 6th place finish in the 1500m to contribute a significant amount of scoring for the Hawks. Trinity Treadway's mark of 9.70 meters in the shot put proved to be good enough for fifth place overall, bringing her inside the top 10 in three of her four field events.
Huntingdon's men's team tied for fourth place overall with Maryville College, scoring 122 points on the meet. The women's team put 51 points on the board, placing them sixth. Click here for the full performance list and team scores.
