Gilroy Continues To Shine As Huntingdon Takes On The Berry Field Day Invitational
MOUNT BERRY, Ga.- Rounding out the regular season this weekend at the Berry Field Day Invitational, Huntingdon Track and Field pieced together a successful performance at the Berry College Field Day Invitational.
Once again, the Hawks were led by Rory Gilroy's performance in the hurdles, as the junior placed 2nd in the 400m hurdle with a season-best time of 53.80 seconds before taking first place with a 14.81 second time in the 110's. Gilroy now ranks inside the top five in each event within the South region, and 17th in the nation in the 400m hurdles.
In the field events, Javerious Askew delivered a strong showing, finishing fourth in the long jump (6.75m) and adding a sixth-place finish in the triple jump (13.44m). Marcus Malone Jr. contributed across multiple events, including a sixth-place finish in the high jump (1.77m) and solid efforts in both horizontal jumps and the javelin.
On the track, Huntingdon's 4x100-meter relay team turned in one of the top performances of the day with a third-place finish in 43.05, while the 4x400-meter relay added points with a fourth-place finish.
Additional contributions came from Johnny Quarles and Jackson Rinehart in the hurdles, along with efforts across sprint and distance events.
The women's squad was paced by its throws group, led by Trinity Treadway, who posted top-20 finishes in all three of her events, including 18th in the hammer throw (34.98m), 20th in the shot put (9.49m), and 13th in the javelin (22.02m). Freshmen Amberly Bennett and Toni Taylor also competed in multiple throwing events, gaining valuable experience while contributing across shot put, hammer, discus, and javelin.
On the track, Michaela Moore led Huntingdon in distance events, finishing 20th in the 1500 meters (5:36.29), while the sprint group was highlighted by Arianna Morning, who placed 12th in the 100-meter dash (13.61).
The Hawks look forward to the Collegiate Conference of the South Championships, beginning on April 21st at Belhaven University.
