Seven Hawks Podium At The CCS Championships

JACKSON, Mississippi- With the 2026 Collegiate Conference of the South Championships coming to a close today, Huntingdon saw 7 different Hawks reach the podium between both the men's and women's teams. In doing so, the men finished 5th on the leaderboard with 98 total points, while the women took home 7th with 45 points, both of which exceed their totals from a year ago in the performance in the program's young history.

The Hawks collectively peaked at the right time, with nearly every athlete represented setting a personal best, and some shattering school records. The men were lead yet again by Rory Gilroy. The junior standout took home the gold medal in both the 110m and 400m hurdles while playing a role in the 4x100m relay team's 4th place finish and the 4x400m relay's(William Mann, Gilroy, Gavin McAbee, Johnny Quarles) 2nd place finish and school record time of 3:27.23. The freshman duo of Jackson Rinehart and Johnny Quarles also saw quite a bit of success the last two days, as Rinehart claimed 3rd in the 110m hurdles, 6th in the 400m hurdles, and 9th in the long jump; while Quarles finished 4th in the 110m hurdles, 4th in the javelin, and 3rd in the 400m hurdles. In the field, Marcus Malone and Javerious Askew continued to shoulder the load. Askew led the way with a 2nd place mark in the triple jump, 4th place in the long jump, and 5th in the high jump, while Malone tied for 5th in the high jump, took 5th in the javelin, and 8th in the long jump. William Mann scored in both the 400m and 800m to round things out. 

As for the women, freshman Amberly Bennett's school record mark of 33.51 meters and 3rd place finish led the way. Bennett also took 4th in the shotput, 8th in the hammer, and 10th in the javelin, accounting for 12 of the Hawks 45 total points. Trinity Treadway also pieced together an exceptional performance, racking up 16 points of her own with a 5th place mark in the discus, 6th place in the hammer throw, 4th in the javelin, and 5th in the shotput. Michaela Moore and Evie Garrett finished fourth and fifth in the 3000m steeplechase respectively, while Toni Taylor's 6th place mark in the discus and the 4x400m relay team's 6th place position rounded out the historic day for the Hawks. 

With the conference championships in the rearview mirror, the Hawks look forward to the Emory Qualifier on May 6th in search of NCAA Championship qualifying times and marks.
