Treadway Stays Hot As Huntingdon Sweeps Wartburg

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Returning to Cannon Field following their 4-2 outing at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, Huntingdon softball claimed two victories over the 1-7 Knights of Wartburg College, winning the first game 9-3 before following up with a 9-0 win in five innings.

Senior catcher Miranda Treadway continued her hot streak at the plate, hitting a two run home run for her 7th on the season. She finished the day with a .625 batting average and five RBI's.

Game one: Huntingdon-9, Wartburg-3

Bringing their first runner across home plate in the opening frame, the Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead early. Their lead proved to be short-lived however, as Miranda Treadway evened things up at Huntingdon's third at-bat, singling through the right side to score Maddie Grace Hubbard. Wartburg responded in the second inning to reclaim their lead 2-1, but Huntingdon provided an answer of their own in the following frame, with Dani Holt's sacrifice fly scoring Amaya Wommack to even things at 2 before Hubbard brought home Kate Dinkel, raising the Hawks lead to 3-2 entering the third inning.

After holding the Knights scoreless, Huntingdon was in a position to extend their lead even further, and with the assistance of a Wartburg error, Amaya Wommack managed to bring home Kylie Stephens, Riley Rudick, and herself to bring the Hawks lead to 6-2 before the fourth inning. The Knights put in a run to start the fifth inning to cut Huntingdon's lead to 6-3, but back-to-back doubles from Kate Dinkel and Jordan Holman in the fifth and sixth innings brought home Rudick and Kamryn Miller, icing the game and giving the Hawks the 9-3 victory.

Addison Gaines drew the start in the circle, but it would be Allie Roberts who brought home the win for Huntingdon, allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 8 batters to put the Hawks in a position to grow their advantage.

Game two: Huntingdon-9, Wartburg-0

Contrary to the start of the first game, Huntingdon came out swinging in the first inning, taking a 4-0 lead. Jordan Holman got things going with a RBI single to score Maddie Grace Hubbard before Miranda Treadway drilled a two-run shot over the fence to bring the lead to 3-0. Kylie Stephens single shortly after scored Amaya Wommack and brought the first inning to a close with Huntingdon in control.

Huntingdon distanced themselves even further in the third inning, with Hubbard scoring Stephens to bring the lead to 5-0 before Treadway singled down the left side to secure runs for Kamryn Miller and Katie Burch, raising the lead to 7-0. Hubbard found her way home again on a throwing error to make the score 8-0 entering the fourth inning. In the fourth inning, Mandy Cannon was walked with the bases load, bringing in Kylie Stephens for Huntingdon's 9th and final run, securing the Hawks victory in 5 innings.

Allie Roberts picked up her second win of the afternoon after playing in just one inning, giving up just two hits. Madisyn Fruge took the circle for the Hawks in the other four innings, striking out four while allowing just two hits herself to maintain Huntingdon's lead.

The Hawks look to keep rolling at home on March 11th, hosting the Majors of Millsaps College for a double-header. Games are scheduled for 3:30 and 5:30 PM CT.
