#9 Softball Closes Out Regular Season With Sweep Of Wesleyan

MACON, Ga.- In their final regular season double-header, #9 Huntingdon Softball hit the road, squaring off with the Wesleyan College Wolves as they prepare for the upcoming Collegiate Conference of the South tournament. Closing things out in emphatic fashion, the Hawks claimed game one 13-0 before winning the next 10-1.

With this pair of wins, Huntingdon has finished with a 34-3 record overall, going 13-1 in conference play.

Game One

After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Hawks got things rolling in the second with one run as they staked the early advantage. Amaya Wommack brought Kate Dinkel across home plate with a RBI double at her first at-bat as Huntingdon put themselves ahead early. Jordan Holman followed up with an RBI double of her own in the third inning, scoring Maddie Grace Hubbard to push the lead to 2-0. Wommack and Dinkel repeated their run in the second inning nearly perfectly in the fourth, as Wommack's double raised the lead to 3-0 before she and Kamryn Miller found their way home off a single from Hubbard as the lead grew even further. 

In what ended up being an eight run inning in the top of the fifth, Kylie Stephens kicked things off with a single to score Miranda Treadway, bringing the score to 6-0. Wommack, Katie Burch, Holman, Riley Rudick, and Kate Dinkel each followed up with RBI's of their own, scoring seven runs to close things out with a 13-0 victory.

McKenzie Little drew the start for Huntingdon in the circle and picked up her first win of the season, pitching a complete game and allowing just five hits.

Game Two

The Hawks picked up right where they left off as the second game got underway, scoring three runs in the opening frame to quickly grab control. Jordan Holman led things off with a RBI single before Riley Rudick and Kylie Stephens each recorded RBI's of their own to widen the gap. Kamryn Miller crossed home plate on a passed ball in the second inning to raise the Hawks advantage to 4-0 before Maddie Grace Hubbard found her way home off Holman's RBI double, bringing the score to 5-0. Kate Dinkel soon after returned the favor to Holman before Miranda Treadway scored on another RBI from Stephens as the Hawks lead grew to 7-0 in the third inning.

After a scoreless third and fourth innings, Holman picked up her third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly, bringing Katie Burch home as the lead grew to 8-0. At the following at-bat, Miranda Treadway drilled a double to left-center field, bringing Hubbard and Kinley Hutto across to bring the score to 10-0. The Wolves put up their first run of the series in the final frame, but the Hawks held on to take the victory 10-1.

Aubree Flanagan picked up her first win of the season, pitching all five innings of the second game. She surrendered just one run while limiting Wesleyan to just three hits.

 

With one Collegiate Conference of the South series remaining before the final seedings are announced, the Hawks await official news surrounding the upcoming conference tournament and the six-team bracket.
