Hawks Advance To CCS Semi-Finals With Shutout Victory Over Piedmont

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Earning a first round bye as the tournaments overall #1 seed, #9 ranked Huntingdon softball took to Lucinda Samford Cannon Field for the first time in the 2025 CCS tournament today, facing the #4 seeded Piedmont Lions, who defeated the #5 seed Asbury University just a day prior.

It was a slow start for both teams, with a 0-0 tie remaining through the first two and-a-half innings. Huntingdon finally broke the ice in the bottom of the third however with two runs, making way for the Hawks to advance to the conference semi-finals with a 3-0 victory.

How it happened

Starting in the circle for the Hawks, Allie Roberts came out on fire, throwing two strikeouts in the opening frame to quickly retire the side. She added one more strikeout in the second inning as well, controling the pace of the game as the teams remained deadlocked at 0 heading into the third. Huntingdon opened the third inning with three quick outs, facing just four batters, to put themselves into position to capture the lead.

With two outs on the board in the third inning, Jordan Holman finally broke things open at her second at-bat, sending a double into right field to secure a run for Maddie Grace Hubbard before advancing to third herself. Miranda Treadway followed up at the following at-bat with a single through the left side of the field, returning the favor to Holman as the Huntingdon lead grew to 2-0. The Hawks managed to extend their lead even further in the fifth inning, with Kate Dinkel's single allowing Jordan Holman to cross home plate for the second time as Huntingdon remained in control, 3-0. Through the rest of the way, Madisyn Fruge anchored the Hawks defensive efforts, surrendering just one hit in the final three innings to maintain Huntingdon's lead that turned into a 3-0 victory.

Allie Roberts moved to 19-1 with her victory in the circle today, pitching 4 innings while allowing just two hits. Madisyn Fruge secured her second save of the year as she subbed into the game in the fifth inning, allowing just the one hit herself.

The Hawks return to action in the CCS tournament semi-finals tomorrow, May 2nd, at 11:00 AM CT against the #2 seeded and nationally-ranked #15 Belhaven University Blazers.
