Hawks Fall In CCS Championship To #15 Belhaven
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Earning a rematch with the Blazers in the 2025 Collegiate Conference Championship round, the #1 seeded Huntingdon Hawks took the field today against the #2 seed, Belhaven University, in a battle for the crown and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
In yet another defensive battle between the two teams however, the Hawks would fall again, this time taking a 2-0 loss to finish as the league's runner-up.
Similar to the previous matchup between the two teams earlier in the tournament, the difference came early, as the Blazers drilled a two-run home run over the fence in the bottom of the second inning for the lone runs of the game. The Hawks were held scoreless, but recorded one more hit than Belhaven, as Maddie Grace Hubbard, Miranda Treadway, and Riley Rudick tried to spark Huntingdon's attack at the plate. On the other side of the field, Huntingdon's pitchers remained excellent, holding the Blazers to three hits on the afternoon. Madisyn Fruge surrendered the home run, bringing her record in the circle to 7-3 on the season with the loss, but only allowed one more base hit in the 1.1 innings of action she saw. Freshman Addison Gaines relieved Fruge in the second, and held the Blazers to just one more hit in the final four innings. Additionally, she struck out six Blazers, walking just two.
Finishing as the conference runner-up, four Hawks were selected to the 2025 CCS All-Tournament Team. Catcher Miranda Treadway, Third Baseman Maddie Grace Hubbard, Shortstop Jordan Holman, and Pitcher Addison Gaines each were recognized for their success throughout the duration of the tournament.
