MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Rounding out their time in the Birthplace of Rock and Roll, #16 ranked Huntingdon Softball completed their tournament sweep of the Rhodes Invitational, securing a pair of wins over the Lynx by scores of 4-2 and 7-1, improving to 8-1 on the young season.
Game One
After falling behind early, the Hawks responded with steady offensive pressure to secure a 4-2 win.
Kate Dinkel led the charge at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Kylie Stephens added two hits and an RBI, while Taylor Au also collected a pair of doubles. Huntingdon erased a 2-1 deficit in the third before breaking the tie in the fifth with Dinkel's RBI double and another run coming home on a defensive miscue.
In the circle, Addison Gaines earned the win to move to 4-0, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Allie Roberts was strong in relief, delivering 4.0 shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out three to secure the victory.
Game Two
The Hawks completed the sweep with a commanding 7-1 victory, using aggressive baserunning and capitalizing on defensive opportunities to pull away.
Maddie Grace Hubbard set the tone at the top of the lineup, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases. Kylie Stephens drove in three runs, while Kate Dinkel and Amaya Wommack each added an RBI. Huntingdon steadily built a 5-0 lead through five innings before adding two more insurance runs in the seventh.
McKenzie Little was dominant in the circle, improving to 3-0 with a complete-game effort. She scattered just two hits and allowed one earned run over 7.0 innings, striking out six and walking three in a composed performance.
The Hawks will look to carry their momentum from this weekend into the highly-competitive NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia. They open play on Friday, March 6th, against Gettysburg and Bethel. Gametimes are set for 2:00 and 4:30 PM CT.
