Roberts' No Hitter Headlines #9 Hawks Conference-Opening Sweep
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Opening CCS play at home with a double-header against the Wesleyan College Wolves, #9 Huntingdon Softball rolled to a sweep, winning the first game 11-0 in five innings before claiming a 7-0 victory in the finale.
Junior Allie Roberts set the tone early, pitching her first no-hitter of the season and the third of her career in today's first game, guiding the Hawks to a run-rule victory.
Game One
Huntingdon exploded for eight runs in the second inning to break open the opener and cruise to an 11-0 run-rule victory.
The Hawks struck first in the opening frame before delivering the decisive second inning, highlighted by two home runs from Kaylin Fincher, including a grand slam that pushed the lead to 9-0. Fincher finished the game with five RBI, while Kinley Hutto added an RBI triple and Riley Rudick drove in two runs.
Huntingdon scored 11 runs on six hits while drawing eight walks and capitalizing on several defensive miscues.
In the circle, Allie Roberts was dominant, tossing a five-inning no-hitter while striking out 10 batters without issuing a walk to improve to 7-0 on the season.
Game Two
The Hawks carried their momentum into game two, scoring in three consecutive innings to secure the sweep.
Huntingdon broke through in the third when Kate Dinkel drove in the game's first run with a triple before Kylie Stephens followed with an RBI single. The Hawks extended the lead in the fourth inning as Taylor Au delivered a two-run double and Dinkel added another RBI hit during a four-run frame. A fifth-inning run pushed the advantage to 7-0, providing more than enough support for the pitching staff.
Dinkel led the offense with three hits and two RBI, while Au finished with two RBI and Stephens added another run-scoring hit. Kinley Hutto also collected two hits and stole two bases.
Huntingdon's pitching staff combined for another shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out 12. McKenzie Little earned the win, with Addison Gaines and Madisyn Fruge combining for five scoreless innings in relief.
The Hawks will look to keep rolling in CCS play as they host Maryville College on March 20th. Games are set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM CT.
