Hawks Score Season-High To Sweep Wesleyan
MACON, Ga.- Entering tonight's game looking to end a three-game losing streak, Huntingdon women's basketball hit the road to face Wesleyan College. With an offensive effort largely supported by the bench, the Hawks jumped ahead early and never looked back, scoring a season-high 91 points in a 45 point victory over the Wolves.
First Quarter
- After starting off slow in their first matchup with Wesleyan, the Hawks flew out of the gates this go-around, seeing baskets from Kinstin Davis, Deshauna Foote, and Destiny Grider to take a 9-2 lead by the 6:25 mark
- Huntingdon's bench made an impact early, with Charity Shaw and Makayla Ford scoring an immediate 5 points to raise the Hawks lead to 16-8
- Consecutive baskets from Carltajah Jackson gave Huntingdon their first double-digit lead of the game, 19-8 as the first quarter came to a close
Second Quarter
- The Wolves followed a free throw by Kennedy-Ryan Jackson with three of their own, cutting Huntingdon's lead to 20-11 by the 8:35 mark
- Payton Corbett's jumpshot at the 7:36 mark sparked a 11-0 run, pushing the Hawks advantage to 31-11 with 5 minutes remaining until halftime
- Trading baskets as the half drew near, back-to-back jumpers from Shaw gave Huntingdon a 39-20 halftime lead
Third Quarter
- Picking up where they left off in the first half, the Hawks pieced together a 9-2 run to open the third quarter, extending their lead to 49-22 three minutes in
- Charity Shaw continued to shoulder the load for Huntingdon's offense, scoring 8 consecutive points to raise the Hawks lead to 60-32 before Cassidy Campbell's back-to-back triples at the three minute mark brought Huntingdon's advantage to 66-32
- Another basket from Shaw brought Huntingdon's lead to 68-38 entering the final quarter
Fourth Quarter
- The Hawks continued to pour it on in the early stages of the final quarter, with Abby Byrd leading the offensive effort by scoring six points in the first 3 minutes. As a result, the Hawks maintained control 76-41
- To put a stamp on their emphatic victory, the Hawks opened up a 9-1 run, bringing the score to 85-44 with 3 minutes to go. A pair of Jayla Carter free throws brought the scoring to an end, as Huntingdon walked away with the massive CCS victory.
