Men's Basketball Taken Down At Belhaven
JACKSON, Miss. – Closing their regular season on the road, Huntingdon College could not overcome a hot-shooting night from Belhaven University, falling 98-85 inside Rugg Arena.
Belhaven shot an even 50 percent from the field and placed five players in double figures, using balanced scoring and interior defense to pull away in the second half.
Huntingdon was paced once again by Tyler Mallory, who poured in a game-high 31 points on 11-of-26 shooting while going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. The senior added four rebounds and three steals in a strong individual effort.
Marcus Townsend chipped in 11 points and knocked down 7-of-10 at the stripe, while Owen LaRocca added 12 points behind four three-pointers. Myles Murphy rounded out the Hawks' double-digit scorers with 10 points and six rebounds. Off the bench, Jeremy Autin provided a spark with 12 points and six boards.
Despite forcing 16 Belhaven turnovers and converting 30-of-35 from the free throw line as a team, Huntingdon struggled to find consistent rhythm from the floor, shooting just 32.9 percent overall and 23.3 percent from beyond the arc (7-of-30). The Hawks also finished with just nine assists on 24 made field goals.
With tonight's contest bringing the Hawks regular season to a close, they await news of the final seeding for the Collegate Conference of the South tournament.
