Hawks score 21 goals in conference opener
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team scored 12 goals in the first half and knocked off North Carolina Wesleyan 21-7 on Saturday in the conference opener for both teams.
The win was Huntingdon's fifth in five meetings against the Battling Bishops and marked the first 20-goal game for the Hawks since 2014. The 21 goals are tied for the second most in a game in program history and five short of the program record of 26 set against Reinhardt in 2013.
Huntingdon took a 6-1 lead in the first 20 minutes of Saturday's game and led 12-5 at halftime. Leading 13-7 early in the second half, Huntingdon scored the final eight goals of the game.
Freshman Kailey Laudicina scored six goals and had one assist for the Hawks. This was the second time in four games Laudicina has scored six goals. She is the ninth Hawk to score at least six goals in a game and the first in program history to do it more than once. Shannen O'Leary holds the program record with seven goals against Reinhardt in 2013.
Vanessa Maldonado had four goals and three assists against North Carolina Wesleyan and Shelby Blair added four goals, one assist and seven draw controls. Savannah Ryan, Keirstin Cramer and Olivia Stinson each scored two goals. Ryan also had three draw controls.
Jordan Alvis had two assists and three draw controls and Shelby Barrett scored one goal. Alex Teague had two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Goalie Morgan Coppini had 10 saves, allowed seven goals and had six ground balls in 60 minutes.
