Sewell Captures First Win As Head Coach, Hawks Take Down William Peace

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After suffering back-to-back losses to open the season where the opponent's score more than 15 points each, Huntingdon women's lacrosse and Head Coach Brandon Sewell picked up their first win of the season at home, stifling the Pacers of William Peace in a 13-4 victory.

How it happened

The Hawks came out of the gates firing, with Kate Hudson and Khrystal Graham each scoring by the 10:30 mark to give Huntingdon a solid lead early. The Pacers answered with a goal of their own at the 8:39 mark to cut Huntingdon's lead in half, 2-1, but Graham and Hudson continued to pour it on, scoring the Hawks next 5 unanswered goals as their advantage swelled to 7-1 with 2 minutes remaining in the first quarter. William Peace scored just 30 second later to momentarily stop the bleeding, but Reagan Barrett's goal inside of the final 10 seconds off an assist from Payton Hill brough the Huntingdon lead to 8-2 entering the second quarter.

Throughout the second quarter, each teams defense controlled the pace of the game, as neither team scored through 14 minutes of play. Traditionally a midfielder, Angelina Tran shifted to the goalkeeper position, anchoring the Hawks defensive efforts as they maintained their large lead. Khrystal Graham put in yet another shot with 49 seconds to go until halftime to bring Huntingdon's halftime advantage to 9-2.

Freshman Payton Hill got things going for the Hawks in the second half, scoring off a pass from Reagan Barrett to push the Hawks lead even further to 10-2 by the 13 minute mark. Kate Hudson followed up on a goal from the Pacers with two of her own as the quarter closed, keeping the Hawks ahead 12-3 entering the fourth. William Peace scored as the fourth quarter got underway, but another goal from Hudson secured Huntingdon's first victory on the year, 13-4.
