Hawks Close Out Regular Season With Loss To Southern Virginia, Enter USA South Tournament As 7th Seed
BUENA VISTA, Va.- Traveling to Virginia for their final matchup of the regular season, Huntingdon Women's Lacrosse hit the field in Buena Vista for a battle with Southern Virginia University. The Hawks were ultimately bested by the Knights 19-2 after taking a 13-0 deficit into the halftime break.
With this loss, Huntingdon has been slated as the 7th seed in the USA South Women's Lacrosse conference tournament, while Southern Virginia has earned the fourth seed.
How it happened
As mentioned before, the Knights controlled all aspects of the game in the first half as they jumped out to a 13-0 lead. Southern Virgina started the game on fire offensively, putting in 10 goals in the first quarter as they distanced themselves from the Hawks. Huntingdon's first goal wouldn't come until the Hawks were down 16 goals in the third quarter, with Reagan Barrett putting the team's first point of the game on the board at the 4:47 mark. She put in another goal as the fourth quarter got underway off an assist from Payton Hill, but the Hawks were ultimately defeated 19-2.
What's Next
Falling to 3-9 on the season with a 3-6 record in conference play, the Hawks will hit the road for the first round of the USA South tournament, traveling to face the second-seeded Piedmont University Lions on Saturday, April 26th.
