Women's Lacrosse Hangs On To Defeat Brevard

BREVARD, NC.- Claiming their first USA South win of the year on the road, Huntingdon Women's Lacrosse lit it up in an 11-9 win at Brevard to improve to to 2-6 on the year and 1-3 in conference play. 

The Hawks showed resilience early after falling behind 2–0 in the opening minutes. Huntingdon responded with a strong offensive burst, scoring four of the final five goals in the first quarter. Goals from Molly Turnan, Amara Veng, Payton Hill, and another from Turnan flipped the momentum and gave the Hawks a 4–3 lead after one.

Huntingdon continued to build its advantage in the second quarter. Reagan Barrett sparked the offense with two goals in the period, including a free-position strike, while Payton Hill added another to stretch the lead. Despite Brevard answering with three goals of its own, the Hawks carried a 7–6 edge into halftime.

The game shifted decisively in the third quarter as Huntingdon's defense stepped up. The Hawks held Brevard scoreless while adding two more goals, with Turnan and Veng each finding the back of the net. That defensive stand created crucial separation, pushing the lead to 9–6 heading into the final period.

In the fourth, Barrett struck again early on a free-position opportunity to extend the lead to four. Brevard mounted a late comeback attempt with three goals in the quarter, but Huntingdon answered when it mattered most. Barrett's fourth goal of the game with just over a minute remaining provided the cushion the Hawks needed to close it out, securing the 11–9 victory.

Barrett led the way offensively with four goals and two assists, while Turnan added a hat trick. Veng contributed a well-rounded performance with two goals and three assists, and Payton Hill chipped in two goals. Kate Hudson played a key role as a facilitator with three assists and controlled possession with four draw controls.

Defensively, Huntingdon made key plays throughout, forcing 20 Brevard turnovers and scooping up 19 ground balls. Goalkeeper Kendall Hallas earned the win with eight saves, including several timely stops during Brevard's late push.

The Hawks will look to keep rolling on March 28th at home against NC Wesleyan. Gametime is set for 12:00 PM CT.
