Women's Soccer Placed Fourth In CCS Preseason Poll

ATLANTA, Ga.- In a preseason poll voted on and determined by the conference's nine head coaches, Huntingdon women's soccer has been placed to finish fourth in the league.

Maryville secured 63 points, solidifying their place as the preseason favorite with seven first-place votes. The Scots are coming off their first-ever CCS Women's Soccer Championship in 2023. Their remarkable journey culminated in a nail-biting 2-1 victory over Covenant in the championship match. This success earned them an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship, where they were defeated by Washington (Mo.) in the first round.

As for the Hawks, their 2023 season ended with a final record of 5-10-1, but head coach Cliff Jordan is optimistic entering the 2024 season slate, sharing that "Our staff is excited to welcome a strong group of new players to our growing program. We have been impressed with everyone as they continue to compete for playing time and gain valuable experience on a collegiate level. Everyone has risen to the challenges we have put forth on them this preseason and are looking forward to taking on those same challenges during the regular season".

With 13 freshmen taking the pitch for the Hawks this season, they'll look to utilize their youth as they progress throughout the season. The two seniors on the squad, Makenna Kramer and Zoe Gerlach, will serve as the team's lead source of experience alongside key sophomore contributors Libby Williams, Anaely Almeida, Angelina Mazza, and Calista Sweet.

As the 2024 season approaches, anticipation is building for what promises to be another exciting chapter in CCS women's soccer. Conference play kicks off on Thursday, September 26, with teams across the league vying for supremacy. The road to the title will culminate in the 2024 CCS Women's Soccer Championship Tournament, featuring the top six teams, beginning on Saturday, November 2, with the championship match set for Saturday, November 9.
