Strong Offense Pushes The Hawks Past Millsaps

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- In their first home game of the season, Huntingdon women's soccer(2-0 overall) defeated the Majors of Millsaps College(0-2 overall) 3-1 with a strong offensive attack throughout the match.

How it happened

The opening minutes of the game were defined by aggressive offense from each team, as they both earned shot attempts at the goal within the first five minutes. Millsaps got on the board first and broke the ice, sneaking a shot past Caroline Masker at the 12:16 mark to take a 1-0 lead. After missing her first two shots of the game, senior Zoe Gerlach was able to find the mark on her third attempt, heading in a pass from Maddie Goggans to even the score at 1 18 minutes into the game. Gerlach's goal would be the last of the half, and the two teams entered halftime deadlocked.

Taking the field to kick off the second half, Huntingdon found their rhythm on the offensive end, with Shaylinn McFarland taking a pass from Laney Bishop to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead within the first five minutes of the half. Goalkeeper Libby Williams started the half for Huntingdon and served as an anchor for the Hawks with their newly-found lead, putting a stop to the Majors only shot attempt on goal in the half to maintain the Hawks' lead. To close the game and secure a victory, Shaylinn McFarland found Angelina Mazza through the middle of the field, where Mazza flew one past the keeper to give Huntingdon a 3-1 non-conference win.
