Alabama Power Huntingdon Student Athlete Of The Week: A'Kirra McElveen
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Following a week of solid performances and a nomination as the Collegiate Conference of the South Volleyball Rookie of the Week, A'Kirra McElveen has been recognized as the Alabama Power Huntingdon Student Athlete of the Week.
A'Kirra's performance at the net in the Hawks contests against Mary-Hardin Baylor, Maryville, and Wesleyan anchored Huntingdon's performances throughout, as she recorded 26 kills and 8 assisted blocks through four matches. Her best performance came in Huntingdon's 3-1 victory over CCS front-runner Maryville, where she put up 8 kills, 5 assisted blocks, and 2 digs with a hitting percentage of .375 as she led the Hawks in the first of their two victories on Saturday. Her excellent performance against the Scots carried over into Huntingdon's second game against Wesleyan, where she collected 10 kills on 12 attempts with no errors, tacking on an assisted block as well.
A'Kirra and the Hawks look to carry their success from this weekend into their match tonight at 6:30 against the Belhaven Blazers at home. Alabama Power is a proud sponsor of Huntingdon Athletics, supporting all of those involved in providing an exemplary experience for the student athletes who participate in the department's 23 athletic programs.
