Four Hawks Advance To Day Two Of Regionals

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- Looking to continue their postseason success following a runner-up finish at the SLIAC conference championships, Huntingdon Women's Wrestling took to the mat at Emmanuel University for the NCAA Regional tournament.

Different from years past, the NCAA regional is a two-day event in which the top three finishers within each weight class qualify for a spot at the national championship. Through today's matches, four Hawks are on the brink of qualification, which would double the total number of Huntingdon Women's Wrestlers to qualify for nationals in program history. Jordan Epstein, Angie Knepp, Arie Bacon, and Aniyah Griffin all pieced together solid outings to move on to day two of regional tournament action.

In the 103 lb weight class, Jordan Epstein is the current #6 seed in the tournament. She will need to knock off 3 higher-seeded wrestlers to advance to nationals. Same goes for Angie Knepp as the #5 seed in the 131 lb class, as she will kick off tomorrow with a match against the #15 seeded wrestler before facing off with the winner of a match between the 6th and 7th.

As for Arie Bacon, she is the second highest seeded wrestler remaining in the consolation bracket, needing wins over the 4th, 7th, or 10th seeded wrestlers to earn her opportunity in the 145 lb weight class. Aniyah Griffin entered the regional tournament as the highest ranked Hawk, entering today's action #4 in the bracket. After a 1-1 outing on the day, she'll also look to climb out of the consolation bracket to advance.

With one more day of wrestling remaining for these wrestlers at regionals, the Hawks will have their eyes set on a trip to nationals. Matches are set to resume at Emmanuel tomorrow, February 21st, at 10:00 AM CT.
