Hawks Can't Get It Going At LaGrange
LAGRANGE, Ga.- Returning to USA South action following their loss at home to NC Wesleyan, Hawks Football hit the road to square off with the current conference front-runners, the LaGrange Panthers. Despite scoring first, the Hawks couldn't generate any momentum in the road contest, falling 30-14.
As mentioned earlier, the Hawks hit their stride early on, receiving the ball to start the game and finding the endzone seamlessly, opening things up on a 8 play, 49-yard march that resulted in a 6-yard touchdown connection between Jake White and Connor Cash- putting Huntingdon ahead 7-0 early. The Hawks defense started off strong as well, forcing a turnover-on-downs on LaGrange's first offensive possession, but the offense was forced to punt the ball on the ensuing possession.
Following the Huntingdon punt, the defense remained solid, as Austin Kerchner's sack brought the Panthers drive to an end, but the offense saw a similar fate on the next drive , as Knox Roberts was sacked as well to close out the Huntingdon offensive possession. LaGrange managed to find their way on the scoreboard following the sack, making the most of the Hawks Special Teams mistake to even things up at 7 with 12 minutes remaining until halftime. The final four possessions of the second half proved to be a struggle offensively for both teams, as Huntingdon threw an interception before both teams missed field goals coming down the stretch. Nonetheless, the score remained even at 7 in halftime.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Hawks struck early, as Knox Roberts found Terrell Copeland streaking down the field for a 39-yard touchdown that put Huntingdon back in front 14-7 by the 13 minute mark in the third quarter. Through the remainder of the contest however, the Hawks couldn't find their groove offensively, as the Panthers evened things at 14 before a pick-six gave LaGrange their first lead of the contest by the 9:57 mark in the quarter. Securing just 2 more first downs through the remainder of the second half, the Hawks couldn't keep pace, dropping their second consecutive USA South contest 30-14.
Huntingdon will look to bounce back on November 1st, hitting the road again to take on Brevard. Gametime is set for 11:00 AM CT.
