Hawks Taken Down Late In Season-Opener By Point University

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Taking to Charles Lee Field at Samford Stadium for their first game of the 2026 season, Huntingdon Men's Lacrosse fought in a back-and-forth battle with NAIA Point University before falling 12-8 to the Skyhawks.

How it happened

The Hawks flew out of the gates offensively to secure a 3-0 lead by the 5 minute mark in the first quarter. Sophomore Reed Evard got things going with an unassisted goal at the 12:08 mark for Huntingdon's first score of the season, which seniors Kelcey Marston and Tristan Dial followed at the 8:37 mark and the 5:21 mark respectively to extend the lead. Point scored a shortly after to cut into the lead 3-1, but the Hawks advantage remained as the second quarter got underway.

As the second quarter got underway, the Skyhawks hit their stride offensively, scoring three unanswered goals through the first 9 minutes of the period to take a 4-3 lead. Jaxon McMonigle stopped the run with Huntingdon's fourth unassisted goal of the afternoon at the 3:26 mark in the quarter, but another Point goal in the quarter put the Skyhawks ahead 5-4 at the half.

Huntingdon started the second half strong, as Connor Angst cashed in off a pass from Marston to even things at 5 within the opening minute of the third quarter. Jaxon McMonigle's goal to open  the final quarter at the 12:30 mark evened things up at 8, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. As the quarter wore on however, Point found a second wind, closing the game with four unanswered goals as the Hawks fell 12-8.
