Last Second Goal Pushes Hanover Past The Hawks
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Looking to respond following their loss at Centenary this weekend, Huntingdon Men's Lacrosse led for the majority of tonight's contest against Hanover, but couldn't ice the game away, falling 12-11 following a last second goal for the Panthers.
Hanover responded with four unanswered goals to tie the game at 9-9 entering the fourth. JT Klam and McMonigle (man-up) helped the Hawks reclaim an 11-9 edge midway through the final period, but the Panthers closed with three straight goals — including the equalizer with 57 seconds remaining and the game-winner just 11 seconds later — to complete the comeback.
McMonigle led Huntingdon with five goals on 16 shots, while Dial added two goals and an assist. Marston also scored twice as the Hawks outshot Hanover 44-41 and went 3-for-4 on man-up opportunities.
Despite 19 saves from Hanover's goalkeeper and a 19-8 edge in faceoffs, the Hawks matched the Panthers with 33 ground balls. Huntingdon goalie Ethan Schellenberger recorded 14 saves in the contest as he fell to 1-2 on the season.
The Hawks will look to respond on Sunday, March 1st at home as they host Hendrix College. Gametime is set for 1:00 PM CT.
