COLUMBUS,Miss.- Traveling to take on MUW for their first game of the season, Huntingdon men's soccer(1-0 overall) defeated the Owls(0-1 overall) by a score of 3-1.
The early stages of the match were highlighted by strong defense on each side, with neither squad able to generate much offense. Goalkeeper Braden Ross saved the only MUW shot on goal in the first 35 minutes while MUW was able to stop three of Huntingdon's scoring attempts.
At the 36 minute mark in the half, senior Jacob King broke the ice with a goal off a pass from Varian Carty to give Huntingdon a 1-0 lead entering the second half.
The second half began much like the first, with neither team finding their way past the other side's goalkeeper. At the 66:18 mark in the half, Dashun McDonald scored the second goal for the Hawks this season off an assist from Tate Reynolds to push Huntingdon's advantage to 2-0 with 24 minutes to go.
Following Calvert, J.C. McKnight was able to find his way past the goalkeeper for the Hawk's third and final goal of the night off an assist from Jaden Jenkins with a little less than five minutes remaining in the game.
MUW was able to put a penalty kick past Braden Ross with less than two minutes to go, but the Hawks were able to hold on, taking the 3-1 victory.
